THE BEDLAM THEATRE - 8th August 2006
The Scotsman 7th August’ a hilarious show!’

Scotland is a Great Big Evil Face! ……………..a hysterical historical show….
‘Scotland is evil. Believe it. It was founded on evil, nurtured with evil and now thrives happily on purest evil!’…..survival is NOT guaranteed!

Back from the Martian madness! Exhausted! BUT I survived, only just!! We had an early start for 10am show and much walking up and down Edinburgh’s Closes.
An endearingly charming and humorous show, with several quirky songs including ‘Heaven’ and favourite -‘What’s your favourite kind of Torture!’…………….does this mean torture I enjoy I wonder?

So how were the seeds sown that mean one day the Scots will use their evilest plan to take over! The answers may surprise you!

John was his usual energetic if scary self, but with long locks flowing this time!! Well the show is about Scotland’s evil plan!!! Gerry, his younger brother is so funny - and he kept his amazing HIGH voice for the afternoon gigs!

While the first day, and with some bits left out, and also some problems with the speakers (unfortunately missing out the John Knox sketch, a truly significant segment of Scottish History), Scotland is a Great Big Evil Face is a thought provoking! while off-the-wall journey through Scotland’s past, from the roots of Scottish ‘evilness’, to the attack by the Picts, the polite Romans unable to face Scottish 'evilness', the Holy Grail, the TORTURE! the tricks used at Bannockburn, the Irish and much MUCH more! There’s much to enjoy and the set moves at a frenetic pace – my minds on overload!
‘ There was also a bloody Scottish civil war but we’re running out of time now! ’

John with a mystified and scary expression - and charging around the stage! Houston serious and Gerry! Well what can I say! With a cheeky, rascal face and soooooo.. funny, he displays a wicked mischievousness!...........
I’m worried I’ve got all this completely mixed up! A very funny show!
(PS the Scots are eventually 'called' back to their native Scotland)

Anyway we were surprised to see only 3 on stage and not sure if the other 2 are to reappear at the Dungeons. But we can’t complain because Houston, Gerry and John are such talented, energetic and engrossing performers.

Footnote: We were told no flash photos thats why some pics are blurry and their faces like ghosts! ....scarey! Had a nice chat with John at the Bedlam. It was lovely to meet Gerry.
(I’m sure my younger Martian mates Fiona and Emma will fill in the details! I’m struggling to remember quotes, need a recording. )   an overwhelmed Pauline!
