' The Martians Are coming' was recorded in June 2002, with David Sneddon and John Kielty sharing the vocals,
Harry on electric guitar, Gibby bass & John rhythmn guitar,
John met David Sneddon, of Fame Academy fame in 2001, while doing a play, and after enjoying acoustic gigs at the Tron in Glasgow, they decided to start a band together and called themselves The Martians. 'I learned some of David’s songs on piano, I wrote some songs. We were going to be called the Ponchos’… Gerry’s idea!’ John wanted to perform an unplugged version of War of he Worlds so he brought in Harry (lead guitar) Gibby (bass) and Kate who made interesting noises. This went down pretty well.
In June 2002 the Martians went into the studio and recorded the first 4-track Martian Cd in one day. They recorded Long Time Coming, Flowers and Butterflies, Roll Along and Convince Me. The CD got a good response and sold well. The Martians performed at the Edinburgh Festival in August, and that’s when things were starting to happen for them in 2002. David decided to enter the BBCs Fame Academy which he went on to win! He signed with Mercury Records. In January 2003 his song ‘ Living The Lie’ topped the charts. John joined David in London, to co-write songs for his debut album. John travelled and worked on the road with David over 2003, they made records together, wrote many songs.
John is influenced by the likes of the Beatles, Francis Dunnerry and Crowded House. Their acoustic set takes them from Busking songs, David’s solo Album songs to the new band songs. It’s an hour of music that passes in five minutes producing a wide variety of moods. They include four well-matched covers Let It Be, Sweet Home Alabama, Weather With You, Littlest Hobo. With Dave on keyboards, John on acoustic and Harry on electric guitar. Their rapport on stage lends that extra magic to a highly professional and entertaining hour of music.
