tHE maRTIaNS thE RoYAL mILE 2005
So after another brief walk? we caught the Martians busking. They have to organise a slot ( the High Street is a busy hotspot for shows). Their first spot was short but they got a better position after an hour waiting and entertained us again with some Martian favourites – ‘Yellow Submarine, 'Sweet Home Alabama', 'Hard Days Night’.
Wonderful moments
The police are here! and they kneel in surrender!... ‘ wasp wasp ‘ and they scatter in all directions!... 'Shut up.. are you talking' and they enter the crowd singing. They are one of the few ‘real’ acts on the Royal mile and are a refreshing alternative among the made-up faces and over- acting. For extra- special effects in 'the Boxer' song Gerry goes ‘Boom - Shuh’ and jumps in the air, arms raised! Occasionally they stand on one of the street bollards. Gerry follows people at times and wanders off. He’s a natural performer and John thrives on a live audience.
They had an error on their Flyers too - it said 10pm! So they had to write on the back
'Begins 10.30 AM NOT PM! It's John's fault!'
(Note the stray Scotsman in pic 11 and the action shot in pic 16!)
